With it being Halloween I thought I would pose some trick or treat comparisons to the sports world. I will be talking about the surprise athletes in sports, treats, and the disappointing athletes in sports, tricks.
So let's start with the treats right now in sports. First being Darren Sharper of the New Orleans Saints. Guy was left for dead and now will probably win the NFC Defensive player of the year award. Next would be Kevin Garnett, who looks like he might finally be healed from his knee surgery over the summer. Finally would be Cliff Lee of the Philadelphia Phillies, who was cast off by the Cleveland Indians in July and has looked like Cy Young ever since.
Now for the tricks, and boy there are many. First off would be Shaquille O'Neil of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Has anyone ever needed to retire more than him? Next up would be Jake Delhome. Wow, did he become color-blind, because he seems to mix up what players are on his team and who are on the opositions. This is evident by the thirteen interseptions he has thrown so far this season. Finally would be Nick Swisher, who thought the season ended in September because his 3-for-23 can only mean that he thinks he is on winter vacation already.
So there you have it. Now write back with your picks for tricks or treats and we should have a nice discussion.

Alright Chris, I'll give it a shot...
ReplyDeleteTreat... I'm gonna agree 100% on Cliff Lee. The brass in Philly must look like geniuses for holding off on the Roy Halladay trade. They got him for next to nothing.
Trick... Pedro Martinez. Yeah, Philly got him for virtually nothing as well. But 0-2 in the World Series and lasted no longer than 4 innings in both starts... Hideki might as well share the MVP trophy with Pedro cuz he served him up some taters!
Treat... Andy Pettitte. He was the oppostie of Pedro in the WS. I closed out the final game in all 3 match-ups and just looked like he belonged in the Champions' circle. The dude was almost in retirement back in January. Yankee fans will always remember him as part of the "Core Four".
Trick... Mark Teixiria. I'm getting nauseous just thinking about how much money this guy makes. If you broke it down by at-bat (which were mostly strikeouts), he must have made about $30K each time up to the plate or something. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but it's a lot and I don't know the exact numbers. Needless to say, when he got beaned on the back of the leg in the final game, I thought to myself, "Girardi must be happy that the guy finally contributed offensively. Maybe he should start leaning in every time he's up."
Okay, a bit of a world series theme here... my apologies~!
Very informative, keep posting such good articles, it really helps to know about things.
